Re: “Oakland’s Most Iconic Tree Is Named After A Socialist Firebrand: Jack London (Of Course)

Jack London was able to buy his farmland cheap because it had been over-farmed and considered useless. He used organic techniques he learned while a war correspondent abroad to restore the soil. He hoped that in the future the land would be able to support 40 families, but he died too young to see that through.

I'm not sure why running a working ranch makes one a "champagne socialist". Ask any working ranch owner how luxurious that life is.

Re: “West Oakland Gets an East Coast-Style Italian Deli

They were closed at 8 am because they don't open until 10:30.

Re: “Oakland’s Only Nigerian Restaurant Makes Way for a New Beer Garden

... wonder if a new tenant is needed for Salsipuedes' space. A Nigerian restaurant would be fantastic there if a place in the Laurel isn't found.

Re: “Dozens of Renters Lose Homes as City Closes 1919 Market Street Warehouse in Oakland

I lived there from 2002-2006. I'm sure it's far more lucrative to kick out everyone and bring it up to code now than it was ten years ago.

I helped throw enormous parties at Otherworld and saw amazing shows Liminal and grew incredible tomatoes on the roof. Lots of great people passed through there. Sad those types of places are disappearing fast.

Re: “Emeryville's CommonWealth Micropub to Close on Saturday

Seems like once those new condos across the street are inhabited they'd be fine.

We loved the fry-up there, but they stopped serving it awhile ago.
