Re: “Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and Councilmember Abel Guillen Lukewarm to A's Laney Ballpark Plan

The A's Stadium would obliterate the neighborhood.

Re: “Community and Labor Groups Say Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf Has Stacked the Planning Commission with Real Estate Industry Reps

Why even bother to have the pretense of a Planning Commission?

Re: “Sen. Nancy Skinner Asks Contra Costa Supervisors to Cancel $95 Million Jail Expansion

Thank you Senator Skinner! We need more leadership like this!
Contra Costa County residents need youth services, social services, health care and mental health services, not jails.

Re: “I Was Kicked Out of Federal Immigration Court — Because I'm a Journalist

Thanks. I went to one in Arizona and they heard the cases with 30-50 people
"defendants" at a time. It was insane. They had no translation, and would enter their pleas en masse as "guilty." It was astonishing. That said, this was under Obama. I would hate to see what it's going to be like under Trump.

Re: “#LibbyLeaks: Oakland Mayor Launches Investigation Against City and Police Whistleblowers

This effort is completely against every good government practice, a huge waste of resources, AND anti-worker.
Thanks for writing this, and I hope that there is an official investigation into their retaliatory efforts.

Re: “Did the Express Get its Rent-Control Reform Ballot Measure Story Wrong? Hell No. Here's Why ...

Thank you, Darwin.

The shenanigans at City Hall to try and hinder our Rent Control/Just Cause initiative have been appalling, and the City Attorney's office has repeatedly played an obstructionist role over the last two months.

The City Attorney's response last week to your article did not contextualize all the various ways that they have obstructed our initiative, including attempting to stop Councilmember Brooks from calling the initiative up from Committee to the full Council. There have been multiple moves by various City leaders to try and kill the initiative in Committee through procedural maneuvers or staff reports that are grossly misleading about the administrative costs.

Guillen isn't the only recusal, and I think it's fair to ask whether the City Attorney has the right to weigh in these issues, if under the same set of facts, she may have a conflict.

Over the years plenty of landlords have voted to support rent control. County Supervisor Terannce Hallinan owned many rental properties and voted to support rent control over and over again.
