Chef-owner Supasit Puttikaew brought serious cooking chops to his tiny Thai restaurant after serving as Hawker Fare’s chef de cuisine. As with the East Bay’s best restaurants, Funky Elephant commits to sourcing top-notch ingredients from local purveyors and making just about everything in-house. Fittingly, the prices are higher than your average Thai restaurant, but the bold flavors match — it’s part of Puttikaew and his wife Nanchaphon Laptanachai’s quest to prove that Thai food shouldn’t always be cheap. With a tight menu, all of the dishes are strong, but the scratch-made curries particularly impress. Don’t miss the fun beverage selection.
