Funky Elephant Guest Chef Dinner at Mägo Free One Day Only Staff Pick

When: Mon., Dec. 2, 5:30 p.m. 2019
Mägo means wizard or magician, and at chef Mark Liberman’s 45-seat restaurant, guests are seated at the counter around a hearth, where the magical live-fire cooking takes place. In the first of a series of guest chef dinners, Mägo is teaming up with chef Supasit Puttikaew of Funky Elephant in Berkeley for one night only, in what Liberman calls a “spontaneous jam session” between chefs. Funky Elephant’s contributions to the menu include “hella” drunken mussels fired in a wok and seasoned with housemade chili jam, oyster sauce, Thai basil, and bird eye chili; Siamese fried egg salad with grilled shrimp, nam jim seafood dressing, and herbs; and “Pad Thai Old School,” made with white gulf shrimp. Meanwhile, Liberman will be serving up dishes like sweet potato gnocchi with persimmons and chestnuts, and osso bucco with citrus leaves, chili, and puffed grains. All items are available a la carte. Reserve a table online, or walk in on a space-available basis.
