Fresh Start: Working Families Community Festival

When: Sat., Aug. 27, 12-5 p.m. 2011
Price: free

It's back-to-school time again. And while the academic year can afford parents some cherished free time, it can be challenging to afford all those books, binders, and other school supplies. But the Fresh Start Festival on Saturday, Aug. 27, aims to offset some of those costs for working families with a slew of complimentary supplies and services for children from five to fifteen years old. In addition to thousands of free backpacks and supplies, the fest offers haircuts for boys, manicures for girls, health services, a picnic lunch, and live entertainment. At deFremeryPark (1651 Adeline St., Oakland).Noon-5 p.m., free.
