Re: “Understanding North Korea

This is a timely and important article. There has been so much misinformation about the peninsula of Korea and the history of US interests in that region. One other important point is that the United States supported Koreans who had worked under Japanese authority, essentially people who had capitulated with the imperialist agenda. Given the harshness of Japanese rule, it is no wonder that there was resentment to the role of the United States in Korea following independence. The important thing here is that Koreans want unification and true independence. To get there, the United States needs to sit down and finally negotiate a peace treaty with North Korea. This act will bring the legitimacy and peace of mind that North Koreans so greatly desire.
