Frank Bergon

When: Thu., June 23, 7:30 p.m. 2011

Jesse's Ghost is based on a true story of teenage life -- and murder -- in the Central Valley in the early 1960s, a world that novelist Frank Bergon knows well, having grown up on a San JoaquinValley ranch. In Jesse's Ghost, Jesse, Sonny, and friends carouse their way through post-Dust Bowl adolescence, brawling blindly toward catastrophic ends and, ultimately, redemption. Bergon reads Thursday, June 23, at Mrs. Dalloway's (2904 College Ave., Berkeley). 7:30 p.m., free. 510-704-8222 or
