Drama
The father (Lior Ashkenazi) and mother (Sarah Adler) of an Israeli soldier are notified that their son (Yonatan Shiray) has been killed in action at a remote desert outpost, thus setting in motion a well-acted, suspenseful drama by writer-director Samuel Maoz. Actors Ashkenazi (Norman) and Adler are particularly good as the parents, whose marriage is already stressed before the bad news – and the flashback scenes at the military checkpoint capture the ironies of Israel’s ceaseless wars against its enemies, real and imagined. Costarring Yehuda Almagor (113 min., 2017, rated R)
