Forqueray Rules

When: Sat., April 26, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: $25; $22 for members and seniors

Violists Peter Hallifax and Julie Jeffrey have made the uninhibited, surprisingly energetic viol music of French high baroque composer Jean-BaptisteForqueray a special passion. At their San Francisco Early Music Society concert, entitled "Forqueray Rules," the duo welcomes a special guest, the celebrated Swedish theorbo master, Jakob Lindberg, for a program that centers around two of Forqueray's finest viol suites (often attributed to his father Antoine). The more restrained and elegant theorbo music by Robert de Visée and music for two viols and continuo by Marin Marais -- both contemporaries of Forqueray -- should make for a fascinating evening. At St. John's Presbyterian Church (2727 College Ave., Berkeley) on Saturday, April 26.8 p.m., $25; $22 for members and or 510-528-1725.
