Entertaining documentary profile of artist/illustrator Ralph Steadman takes off from his reputation as the “Gonzo” sidekick of the late writer Hunter S. Thompson – they did Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and many other books and articles together – to show the breadth of Englishman Steadman’s work. He has lent his distinctive helter-skelter India-ink-blotch style to such subjects as George Orwell, the movie Withnail & I, William S. Burroughs, and Leonardo da Vinci. But it’s Gonzo the fans want to know about, and Steadman gives it to us. Johnny Depp serves as narrator and interviewer, with look-ins from Terry Gilliam, Jann Wenner, and actor Richard E. Grant (89 min.).
