Videos may have gone the way of the eight-track in this age of YouTube, but Foo Fighters are still treating it as a medium for mini- slapstick movies of the slapstick kind. Not unlike prior mini-classics like "Big Me" and "Learn to Fly," Foo takes the opportunity to play dress-up and have some yucks with For their new single "Long Road to Ruin." ," sSkin-bashing frontman Dave Grohl dons an absurdly overgrown porn-mustache opposite The Office's Rashida Jones in a way-cheesy soap-opera plot that literally ends with a car driven by Grohl's character going over a cliff in flames. And while a four-minute video will only get you so far, Foo Fighters has have thankfully aged gracefully as the post-grunge era's standard bearers, unlike peers like Matchbox Twenty (eternally plagued by Rob Thomas' unerring wussiness) or Bush (who just plain suck). While Foo's their latest outing Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace maintains a death-grip on the band's trademark soft-to-loud dynamic school of arranging, Grohl's pop instincts remain airtight within this cocoon of familiarity. Emo stalwarts Jimmy Eat World and Gainesville, Florida punk outfit Against Me! open the show. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Oracle ORACLEArena & McAfee Coliseum, (7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland). 7:30 p.m.,$25-$45, $41.50, $25.coliseum.com Coliseum.com
