Re: “Wall Street Comes to Alameda

Blackstone is a major investment of CalSTRS, which represents our schoolteacher pensions. https://resources.calstrs.com/publicdocs/P…

Re: “Alameda Council Asks DA to Probe Secret Recording

Hmm...When he was a newly-elected Alameda city councilman, Bonta was accused of violating the city charter, by voting on the employment [termination] of the then-city manager, immediately after his election. Assemblyman Bonta nominated Malia Vella as his district's "woman of the year". Oddie is Bonta's employee, as District Director.
Why wouldn't Bonta just "pile on" his own "feelings" about someone threatening his supporters? At least our politicians are consistent.

Re: “Updated: Alameda City Manager Wiretapped Councilors

California Law Penal Code 632, enacted under the California Invasion of Privacy Act, makes it illegal for an individual to monitor or record a "confidential communication" whether the communication is carried on among the parties in the presence of one another or by means of a telegraph, telephone, or other device. California is known as a "two-party" state, which means that recordings are not allowed unless all parties to the conversation consent to the recording.

Under Penal Code 632(c), "confidential communication" includes any communication carried on in circumstances as may reasonably indicate that any party to the communication desires it to be confined to the parties, but excludes a communication made in a public gathering or in any legislative, judicial, executive or administrative proceeding open to the public, or in any other circumstance in which the parties to the communication may reasonably expect that the communication may be overheard or recorded.
Was this "confidential" communication? The public interest in exposing malfeasance in public office may outweigh the damages [to whom?] sustained in making the recording. After all, this was a conversation among parties who are all public servants, either paid or elected by taxpaying citizens; about city business which directly impacts those citizens.

Re: “You're Not a Progressive If You're Also a NIMBY

I would like to hear Robert Gammon debate Bob Silvestri [Marin Post] on this subject. [or maybe the SF Planning Department, which appears solidly against SB 827] https://marinpost.org/blog/2018/2/15/snowf…

Re: “Vote With Us! The East Bay Express' Endorsements for Election Day 2016

I don't understand your Alameda endorsements. At a LWV Candidate Forum, Marilyn Ashcraft explicitly endorsed L1, not M1. Vella failed to endorse either, but explicitly opposed L1. How is Ashcraft better on Alameda Point development than Daysog? Vella a "Labor Leader"? She has only been a lawyer for barely 4 years, and her first job seems to be as a lawyer representing Teamsters, but she has never been a union laborer herself. how does that limited experience make her a "labor leader"?

Re: “Alameda Mayor In Hot Water Over Racially Insensitive Comments

What does it say about a "journalist" who keeps writing hit pieces about his mayor and never checks his sources?
Mayor Spencer is Mexican. What does Tavares have against Mexicans?
