Being Seen

Barbara Kyne’s work acts as a vehicle for introspective questions that the mainstream media often misses. Her previous exhibits, A Crack in the World and By Fire, delved into modern ecological circumstances like global warming and its effects on the hierarchy of living organisms, from a future tree’s tiny seedlings to human life itself. At the Museum, Kyne’s most recent work — which will be part of Slate Contemporary’s three-person exhibition called Being Seen — presents an outsider point of view for appreciating art and its ability to consume the viewer. The pictures are blurred on purpose to recreate the same emotion that the viewers in Kyne’s photos witness. Instead of having defined and crisp pictures, she explores with color, shape, and light. Being Seen will also feature work by Richard Koci Hernandez and Sherry Karver. — Amyra Soriano
