Fact-filled documentary profiles Leon Vitali, an actor in Stanley Kubrick’s 1975 Barry Lyndon who was so impressed by the experience that surrendered his burgeoning acting career to become Kubrick’s production assistant for 24 years, and became the legendary filmmaker’s de facto alter ego. Doc director Tony Zierra hears from a number of Kubrick’s contemporaries, including actors Ryan O’Neal, R. Lee Ermey, and Matthew Modine, as well as the talkative Vitali, and digs up enough anecdotal material to qualify as a close study of the notoriously private Kubrick himself. A fascinating glimpse behind the scenes for even the most casual Kubrick fan. (93 min., 2017, not rated)
