Feline Bureau

When: Wed., Jan. 23, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: free

MOCO Gallery (371 17th St., Oakland) collaborated with curator CherySiecker to start The Draft Horse series, a free music and drawing party every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The musicians improvise while the crowd sketches -- everything from portraiture to flights of absurdity loosely inspired by the sounds. On Wednesday, Jan. 23, Feline Bureau's interdisciplinary soundscapes should thrive in this setting. The solo project of Laurie Buenafe, Feline Bureau integrates vocal loop drones, found objects, and movement into her pieces, inspired by the Japanese performance art Butoh. Buenafe has mentioned an interest in "interspecies dance music" -- and this set could turn out to be Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS interpreted for the East Bay noise scene. 7 p.m., free.
