Re: “Oakland-Born Gospel Singer Walter Hawkins Dies

I found the Lord during the 1970s, and Walter Hawkins and the Love Center Choir certainly helped lead me to the Lord with the gospel. Hawkins was our Kirk Franklin. I led several of Tremaine Hawkins songs when I was in high school. Bishop Hawkins and Franklin, these two geniuses paraded the gospel across the world with such creativity and spirituality that so many of us had to take a look at our souls. I am now a youth minister, an actress, singer, teacher, and writer with a phd in AFrican American literature. HIs music helped me stay focused on my purpose.
