Rated NR · 2008
An uneven compilation of black-and-white animated shorts by a passel of hipster graphic and toon artists, with a Euro tilt. Best of the bunch are the sinister vignette of a Sade-istic 18th-century nobleman and his pack of ravenous dogs, by Blutch; Charles Burns’ story of a young man threatened by giant insects; a Japanese fairy tale full of forest demons, by French artist Marie Caillou; and New Yorker illustrator Richard McGuire’s imaginative light-and-shadow play about a man trapped in an old dark house. The other artists: Pierre Di Scullio and Lorenzo Mattotti. Produced by Christophe Jankovic and Valérie Schermann (85 min.).
