Comedy drama, Romance
Rich cast, impoverished conception. John Turturro, Woody Allen, Liev Schreiber, Vanessa Paradis, Sharon Stone, and Sofia Vergara interact unbelievably in Turturro’s light-comic drama about a florist (Turturro, who also wrote and directed) who is persuaded by his pimpish friend (Allen) to hire himself out as a male prostitute for women. What do you know – they’re all beautiful, especially an enigmatic Orthodox Jewish woman (Paradis) being shadowed by neighborhood security man Schreiber. The dialogue sounds stilted and the scenario reads like a parody of middle-aged male fantasy. Aside from that, there’s a certain kind of perverse pleasure in watching good actors stuck in a hopeless situation. One for Turturro to forget about (90 min.).
