Re: “The Odd Couple

There is a long tradition among the poverty pimps in West Oakland to not disagree with each other when it comes to supporting a development, i.e. there is an unspoken understanding that if one of them supports a project then that person has already managed to be paid-off for not disrupting the plans, which is easy to do in front of the planning commission, at public hearings, etc., and we have all seen it happen. All someone has to do is come in and start shouting insults, including the fashionable dirty word: "gentrification" and all eyes turn to the white developer who is presumed to have unsavory motives. Projects can get delayed for years and many never materialize: often to the detriment of the community and to the chagrin of the poverty pimps who can then use this example to support their blackmail requests for the next time someone wants to build something. Rick Holliday did a VERY smart thing when he looked at the lay-out of the area that he tried to develop, and realized that all he had to do was pay-off Diallo, who had JUST MOVED to Pine Street from Richmond, ca, where some say he'd been run out of town for shady business practices. I am certain that the cost-benefit analysis showed that Diallo was cheaper than a stalled development and extortion attempts from various actors for so-called "community benefits" that nobody in the community ever sees. I do find it interesting that all 10 supporters of Diallo seem to have managed to be organized to supply comments to Gammon's original story... or was Diallo active again under different screen names? Funny is that most in the Prescott - Oakland Point neighborhood don't get caught anywhere around Diallo and his Holliday-funded projects: one wonders where these supporters live - perhaps with Diallo in a different part of town?!?
