Experience on the Green Concert Critics' Pick Staff Pick

When: Sat., Sept. 13, 2 p.m. 2008
Price: $70-$85

The lineup of soft-soul and crossover-jazz favorites at Saturday afternoon's Experience on the Green, many of whom appear infrequently in the Bay Area, reads like a KRE playlist, circa 1979. The outdoor show features Roberta Flack in a less-formal setting than her usual symphony pops concerts, along with sista singer-keyboardist Patrice Rushen, bop-turned-crossover trumpeter Donald Byrd, onetime Miles Davis bassist and Norman Connors crooner Michael Henderson, singing guitarist Ray Parker Jr., and drummers Leon "Ndugu" Chancler and Kevin Toney. Instead of bringing their own bands, most of the participants will take turns delivering their old hits as an ensemble, which offers the possibility of a jam-session finale.  On Saturday, September 13, at the OaklandMuseumof California (1000 Oak St., Oakland). 2 p.m., $70-$85.
