Exit Strategy

When: Through Sept. 29, 8 p.m.
Price: $40-$70
Sliding over from a position since 2012 as an artistic associate to become Artistic Director in 2019, Josh Costello launches his first season by going back to school. An inner city Chicago public school, to be exact, where a small army composed of five teachers, an administrator, and one energized student seek to save a school slated for demolition. The action is often grim, the subject heavy, but what is most striking in Ike Holter’s gripping play is the characters’ deeply flawed, realistic, somehow noble humanity. An added local touch to melt the frost? Berkeley High School teachers are providing dramaturgical input and a free matinee is planned for BHS students.
