I was not aware of shootings associated with past Juneteenth events in Berkeley. The Deputy City Manager did mention "minor skirmishes" that took place at Berkeley Juneteenth in 2007, as on the city's list of concerns, but she did not emphasize this as the main reason for the ongoing talks between organizers and the city.

As for public safety in the North Oakland, South Berkeley border regions, I do feel it's important, both as a community member and as a reporter.
