Drama, Thriller
At last, a Wall Street drama that shows that women financial executives can be just as greedy and unscrupulous as their male counterparts. Director Meera Menon, working from a screenplay by writer Amy Fox and actresses Sarah Megan Thomas and Alysia Reiner, tells the frustrating tale of Naomi (Anna Gunn from Breaking Bad), an investment banker trying to juggle cutthroat competition, a hideous boss, a law-breaking boyfriend from the same bank, and a former college friend now investigating Naomi’s firm for illegal insider trading — all in the midst of Naomi angling to bring home that killer IPO everyone covets. Whoopee. If the filmmakers wanted to demonstrate Naomi’s integrity, they should have put her in a different industry. As is, she’s a wild animal like all the rest, in a depressing slice of life from the high-finance arena. Costarring Reiner, Thomas, James Purefoy, and Lee Tergesen (100 min.).
