Rated PG-13 · 93 minutes · 2013
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, nobody’s idea of an indie movie maven, does her best to convincingly impersonate a lonely Los Angeles massage therapist named Eva. But it’s James Gandolfini, in one of his last roles, who steals the film as Albert, a laid-back single father who pairs up with single mom Eva. Rounding out the cast of writer-director Nicole Holofcener’s nice-try sitcom of manners are Catherine Keener as a massage client with complications, Tracey Fairaway as Eva’s daughter, and the ubiquitous Toni Colette as Eva’s best friend. If real life were like this, no amount of massage could ever help (93 min.).
