Elisabeth Payne Rosen

When: Thu., Jan. 8, 1 p.m. 2009
Price: free

At home in her native South, Elisabeth Payne Rosen grew up reading autographed William Faulkner first editions. Yet it wasn't until she was married and living in Great Britain that Rosen suddenly realized one day that what she wanted to do most was learn everything she could about the American Civil War. The result was Hallam's War, her novel about a South Carolina man striving to defend his family and his honor. Meet Rosen at the OaklandMuseum of California (1000 Oak St., Oakland) on Thursday, Jan. 8. 1 p.m. MuseumCa.org
