Eliot Schain and Gary Young

When: Thu., Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m. 2011

Former Guggenheim fellow and all-around poetry god D. Nurske has called Eliot Schain "a treasure -- a poet with a sharp edge and a broad canvas," whose work is "wild, beautiful, and necessary." Which sums things up pretty nicely. In a region full of writers, Schain -- a longtime Berkeley resident and psychotherapist by day -- is easily one of the best we've got: sufficiently grounded in realism to be accessible, but gifted and imaginative enough to feel transformational. Seriously, go see him read with Gary Young at Moe's Books (2475 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley) on Thursday, Nov. 10. 7:30 p.m., free. 510-849-2087 or MoreBooks.com
