Re: “Sleeping Around Craigslist

The subject of this article was fascinating -- and must have been one of the most widely-read
of the year, with its provocative topic and perfect headline. I carried it around for two months waiting for the time to read it -- and was then profoundly
disappointed by the execution. With the most potentially exciting material, it suffered from some of the most indifferent writing. Most likely, a story on a less exciting subject wouldn't get published if it were written like this. Everything was told in summary, nothing shown before our eyes and ears. Should be
a journalism case study for how to take an exciting subject and make it dull. Like a war
story told by repeating internal Defense Department memos. We never move through events
moment to moment through the eyes of the people involved. The characters are flat and typed. Even the authors, we know primarily
by their opinions, not in any strong clear living way. The good news: There's still room for a great Express article (and the book, suggested by another commenter) on "sleeping around
Craig'slist" -- by someone who knows how to not only do it, but also tell the human story.
