Billy and Breda Farrell (played by actors Aidan Kelly and Eileen Walsh), a homey married couple in contemporary County Offally, Ireland, are having marital problems on the eve of their tenth anniversary — mostly prompted by Billy’s wandering eye in the local pub. Sounds a bit dull, doesn’t it? But director Declan Recks, working from a screenplay adapted by Eugene O’Brien from his stage play, captures a wee bit of incipient Irish magic in Breda and Billy’s plain faces, and so turns their midlife crisis into a deceptively simple drama on an individual scale — the poetry of the mundane. Sad-eyed Walsh, in particular, is something to behold. Costarring Padraic Delaney, Karl Shiels, and Sarah Green (83 min.).
