Re: “Alameda Becomes a Destination

There is absolutely nothing wrong with people desiring to keep Alameda from becoming "emeryville" and "walnut creek"—both synonyms of soulless, sterile, overcommercialized, Botox-beautiful, economically segregated places encircled by polluted and crowded freeways. There is nothing wrong with wanting development that is tailored to actual needs and scaled to fit, instead of copied, forced and destructive. Your article is highly opinionated, yet sadly uninformed of the alternative views on what makes a viable community that many Alamedans and people faced with similar situations in many other cities have been expressing eloquently for many years. I highly recommend reading "Worked Over" by Dimitra Doukas for an alternative viewpoint.
