Eat, Play, Bark

When: Sat., Nov. 20, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. 2010
Price: free

Three years ago, JeffersonSquarePark (6th and Jefferson sts., Oakland) was a largely empty, rundown park beset by underuse, poor maintenance, and the near-constant rumble of the freeway that flanks the one-block park's south side. But last year, a group led by Councilwoman Nancy Nadel and various Old Oakland neighborhood organizations undertook an ambitious project to restore the park. The long-unused recreation center was torn down and replaced with a dog park, and a new basketball court and "tot lot" were added. See it for yourself at a community potluck and party celebrating the park's grand reopening on Saturday, Nov. 20. 11 a.m.-2 p.m., free. 510-238-7275
