Did you know that President Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon was one the nation’s earliest adaptors to environmental awareness back in the 1970s? Robert Stone’s breezy but information-filled documentary lobs a few other surprises as it recaps the enviro movement from the first Earth Day in 1970 through the Reagan years of the ‘80s, when all that was discarded along with the White House solar panels. Among Stone’s talking heads are Stewart “Whole Earth Catalog” Brand, activist Stephanie Mills, Paul Ehrlich of The Population Bomb, and former astronaut Rusty Schweickart, who got Earth-conscious after seeing it from space. Is our planet sustainable? This timely doc provides a few talking points (90 min.).
