With Eagle Eye, director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) marries Hitchcock to the techno-thriller, throws in a lame attempt at social commentary, and winds up with a roller-coaster ride that's probably a few times smarter than the movie's loud, let's-blow-it-up-like-Michael-Bay trailer suggests it will be. Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan play everyday folks, a slacker counter-jockey and a single mom, sucked into a game of domestic warfare when their cell phones ring and a mysterious woman tells them to follow her orders or else. The rest is a cat-and-mouse game between the protags and the authorities that believe them to be terrorists, all leading to a climax that tacks an unwanted Hollywood ending onto an otherwise dark tale.
