Duke Robillard Club Critics' Pick Staff Pick

When: Mon., Sept. 1, 8 & 10 p.m. 2008
Price: $10-$14

Duke Robillard may be the best white blues guitarist in the country, a man with a clear, clean tone, aggressive attack, and an eclectic taste that includes elements of swing, jumpin' jive, and Chicago and Delta blues. He's a session-heavy songwriter, singer, and blues scholar, and five-time Handy Award winner for best blues guitarist. His sets are marked by his jazzy grooves and the swinging rhythms laid down by his band, all aimed at keeping the dance floor in perpetual motion. Just back from a sold-out European tour, Robillard and his band should be red-hot for their San Francisco date, on Monday, Sept. 1 at San Francisco's Yoshi's (1330 Fillmore St.). 8 & 10 p.m., $14, $5.Yoshis.com/sf
