Robert Lustig, a professor emeritus of pediatrics at UC San Francisco, is best known for Fat Chance, his New York Times bestseller full of groundbreaking research into the connections between sugar and obesity. His latest book, The Hacking of the American Mind: The Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains, continues to look into the forces that have shaped the modern diet — and destroyed our health in the process. Specifically, Lustig explores the difference between pleasure and happiness — the former being temporary and typically achieved with substances, while the latter is more ethereal — and how we ultimately become less happy the more we seek pleasure. Lustig will discuss his book as part of a distinguished speaker series at Bauman College. Tickets will include a signed copy of The Hacking of the American Mind, and the VIP option gets you a meet-and-greet with Lustig and refreshments before the lecture. Proceeds from the event will benefit Bauman College, the holistic nutrition school and nonprofit.
