I have two adopted daughters. One has a relatively "moderate" form of reactive attachment disorder. The older one is completely attached. I thought the article did a good job of discussing the complexities of this disorder and the various symptoms and treatment alternatives that are in the mix.

However, I was deeply saddened by the "little monsters" comment which was utterly inappropriate. These kids are doing the absolute best that they can in the face of challenging circumstances. In fact, it is because they are doing their very best that traditional punishments like "timeouts" and "consequences" do not work. The fact that these children have troubles should not cause them to be labeled "monsters." The editor should have caught that inappropriate word choice.

I also agree that the notion that adoptive families are "cleaning out" orphanages is inaccurate. I challenge the author of this article to provide credible statistical support for this statement.

Still, I think the article is well-written and largely accurate in describing the experiences of a significant minority of the adoption community.

Dads have opinions too. :)
