The idea behind Diorama-rama isn’t complicated. With the aim of fostering a community around reading, the Oakland Public Library is partnering with E. M. Wolfman Small Interest Bookstore (which was recently featured in our story “Downtown, Up and Coming” 12/24/14) to put on a night dedicated to books, and tiny models of the worlds inside them. The folks behind Diorama-rama want eventgoers to create a diorama inspired by their favorite books, and to bring them to the event. No need to sign up. No specific requirements for materials. Just make a magical literary miniature and carry it with you to E.M. Wolfman (410 13th St., Oakland) on January 8 at 6:30 p.m. Then, judges and audience members will decide whose diorama is the best, based on a range of categories, including “most accurate” and “most disturbing.” It’s a revival of the fourth-grade English class project you still consider to be your greatest creative work. And, really, everyone enjoys a good diorama as much as a good book, right?
