Comedy
When a respected actor moves into the director's chair, he can usually draw a pretty good cast, which is certainly the case here: Terry Kinney, who cofounded Steppenwolf Theatre Company and starred in the HBO series Oz, has at his disposal no less than Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda, Virginia Madsen, Dylan Baker, Bobby Cannavale, Jim True-Frost, and Louis C.K. But Sherwood Kiraly's slight script only makes this embarrassment of riches seem more embarrassing. Broderick plays an editor at a Chicago newspaper syndicate who's suffered some memory loss following a concussion; answering a call from his mother, he returns to his hometown of Quincy to help out with his cantankerous uncle (Alda), who's getting pretty foggy himself. For some reason, the climax involves everyone chasing after a priceless baseball card at a sports memorabilia convention (92 min.).
