Once a mainstay of Oakland’s subterranean restaurant scene, this tiny eatery emerged into the mainstream in the fall of 2007. The minimalist menu changes every few weeks, but rest assured that Digs’ creative dishes will make you disinclined to share. With an emphasis on local, organic, and seasonal ingredients, it’s like dinner at the house of that friend you wish would chuck her day job and become a chef already. The restaurant's Parents Nite Out, on the first Monday of every month, features supervised activities and a meal for children in a separate dining area for $5-10.

Hours: Sun-Thurs 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Fri-Sat 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
