Dignidad Rebelde

When: April 15-May 3 2009

The recent shooting of four OPD officers was horrific and indefensible, but similar incidents elsewhere in the nation prove that social problems and pathologies are not unique to beleaguered Oakland. There also seems to be no end to the corporate crime that has affected everyone -- no surprise to many progressive Cassandras. This exhibition of political prints/posters by activists Melanie Cervantes and Jesus Barraza will turn no heads in leftish Berkeley, but mainstreamers who got thumped last fall might wish to revise their dismissive attitudes toward the Brown Berets, the American Indian Movement, the Zapatista Liberationists, the Mexican farmers of San Salvador Atenco, the shooting victims Andrew Moppin and Oscar Grant, and bruised and abused Madre Tierra. DignidadRebelde runs through May 3 at Pueblo Nuevo Gallery (1828 San Pablo Ave., #1, Berkeley). PuebloNuevoGallery.com or 510-452-7363
