Did the Catholics Pass Prop. 8?

That's the question on the mind of Field Poll director Mark DiCamillio, according to a new piece in the Contra Costa Times. Up until Sunday, 48 percent of Catholics polled were opposed to banning gay marriage. But exit polls from Tuesday indicate that when it came time to vote, 64 percent of Catholics voted in favor of the proposition. DiCamillo remembers back in 2000, when his local priest used his Sunday sermon to urge voters to pass a similar measure, albeit one that didn't amend the state constitution. Did the creepy virgins take to the pulpit and get their parishioners to shit all over gay people? Does that violate the tax-exempt status of the Catholic Church? We don't know, but then, we've always been opposed to publicly subsidizing institutions built around the promotion of fairy tales.
