Romantic comedy
After the sudden death of her husband, a buttoned-down business executive (Audrey Tautou) startles everyone in her life by falling in love with the least-conspicuous man in her office (François Damiens), a lower-level employee with a homely face but a warm, open manner. Her friends may cluck at the “mismatch,” but she’s hooked on the guy. That’s all there is to this deceptively profound character study by novelist/filmmaker David Foenkinos, adapting his own book with his brother Stéphane, an erstwhile casting director (Midnight in Paris). When Tautou (Amélie, Coco Before Chanel) flashes her big brown eyes and purses her mouth, everything falls into place. Costarring Bruno Todeschini. (108 min.)
Director: David Foenkinos and Stéphane Foenkinos
Producer: Xavier Rigault and Marc-Antoine Robert
Cast: Audrey Tautou, François Damiens, Bruno Todeschini, Mélanie Bernier, Joséphine de Meaux, Pio Marmaï, Monique Chaumette, Marc Citti and Alexandre Pavloff
