Deborah Edgerly: Lookin' for a Payoff

Former Oakland City Administrator Deborah Edgerly has sued the city, in an apparent effort to extract a lucrative settlement. According to the Trib, Edgerly filed the suit after she failed to land a job in a small town back east. In other words, it looks as if Edgerly is unemployable and she's trying to score a payoff from her former employers. And as a longtime veteran of Oakland City Hall, she has to know that city officials rarely come across a lawsuit that they don't want to settle.

In her suit, Edgerly makes all kinds of salacious allegations for why Ron Dellums fired her last summer, including a claim that the mayor's wife, Cynthia Dellums, wanted the city to pay her cell phone bill and the PG&E bill on the mayor's home. Edgerly also claims that Cynthia Dellums asked her to put some of the mayor's supporters on the city payroll. The only problem, according to the Trib, is that Edgerly has no documented proof to back up her allegations. Plus, there's the issue of her being fired for incompetence and nepotism.
