Crime drama, Thriller
Blunt, violent, entertaining neo-noir gets suitable wintry chills out of the misadventures of a psychotic holdup man (Eric Bana) and his sexpot sister (Olivia Wilde), on the run from a casino heist, and their collision course with a malcontent ex-prize fighter ex-con (Charlie Hunnam), as the bro and sis flee across the snowy Michigan countryside (shot in Quebec). Director Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) gives Bana, Wilde, and Hunnam plenty of space to do their crazy, mixed-up thing, with Kate Mara, Treat Williams, Sissy Spacek, and Kris Kristofferson in sympathetic support. Other major pluses: gritty backwoods settings and crisp, direct action scenes of beatings and shootings. Just the movie for holiday-season counter-programming. Zach Dean wrote the screenplay. (95 min.)
