Re: “Trib Says No Gay Marriages Right Away

The Contra Costa Times and the Oakland Tribune see themselves as being parental adults, issuing their guidelines to children, children who shouldn't own a turtle because they will only be disappointed later when the turtle dies.

Many people do see single gays as being not fully-matured adults. They see dual-income parents with children as the mature adults of society. Single persons are not married because they are either gay, immature, or both.

As the book, "Singled Out" (by Bella DePaulo, Ph.D) points out, many single gays are caring for elderly parents, have a great deal of responsibility in society, and are full-fledged adults in every way.

Unfortunately, the two newspapers have fallen into the trap of faulty thinking as pointed out in the book mentioned. They say, "Don't get married now, kids, because you'll only be disappointed later when reality sets in." This is something they would tell two 12-year-olds who want to marry. I am currently caring for two elderly adults and I know the newspapers' perception of gays must be completely off base and devoid of reality to write as they do.
