David Rakoff

When: Sat., April 4, 8 p.m. 2009
Price: $20-$32

Characterized as "a human tape recorder" by none other than David Sedaris, and known for his many antics (like dressing up as Sigmund Freud for a Christmas store-display), humorist David Rakoff is one of the best writers on the market. His dry wit and self-deprecating tone resemble that of Sedaris, but Rakoff's world view is more sordid. Whether writing about a Christmas Day hike up MountMonadnock (on only one Xanax) or his bit-part in a daytime soap, he always comes away with some disappointing conclusions about human nature. Rakoff appears at UC Berkeley's Zellerbach Hall on Saturday, Apr. 4, as part of Cal Performance's Strictly Speaking lecture series. 8 p.m., $20-$32. CalPerfs.berkeley.edu
