David Bacon

When: Sat., Oct. 12, 3:30-5:30 p.m. 2019
David Bacon has documented the lives of farmworkers and other laborers for more than three decades. The former union organizer and longtime freelancer practices his unparalleled brand of journalism with a passion and a humanity matched by few other American reporters and photographers. As a reporter, imagine John Steinbeck bringing to life the daily tribulations and triumphs of everyday Spanish-speaking field workers in California and elsewhere across America. Meanwhile, Bacon’s rich, black and white photos capture the lives of his subjects with the rich tones of Sebastião Salgado, but the intimacy of Walker Evans. The author of several books including 2017’s In the Fields of the North / En Los Campos del Norte, Bacon will speak about the plight of farmworkers here in the United States and around the globe.
