Re: “Oakland Zoo Expansion Passes City Council, Knowland Park Project to Move Forward

When the City Council fails to listen to their constituents, a referendum is the only way to restore democracy. Allowing a private corporation to skirt a full EIS/EIR to cover up the other existing and viable options to this project, is malfeasance at its' worse. Oakland will be forever scarred by this irresponsible land grab by a corporation only interested in increasing its' Disneyland type experience, for MONEY.

From the Zoo's own website: “One elephant every fifteen minutes is killed for their ivory, and one rhino every nine hours for their horn,” said Gina Kinzley Lead Elephant Keeper at Oakland Zoo. “Wild elephants and rhinos are suffering at the hands of human greed every day."

HUMAN GREED IS DESTROYING KNOWLAND PARK, and the Zoo is spearheading the effort!!! Why save rhinos and elephants when the Zoo is destroying the animals living in their own backyard?

Re: “Zoo Gone Wild

The Zoo Exec's want the VIEW so they can expand their BUSINESS....they could care less about natural habitat and native plants and animals. What a travesty that our Oakland City Council officials have been so complacent in this malfeasance. The Disneyfication of the Oakland Zoo is the vision Dr. Parrott wants to cram down the pocketbooks of the Oakland taxpayers. We all lose incredible natural open parkland. The Bay Area has the best and the brightest residents, educated at Stanford, UC Berkeley, Santa Cruz, Davis, residents that embrace progressive science based conservation methods....and what does Oakland do? Embrace a 1930s vision of conservation which includes destroying native habitat to charge people admission to see what native habitat looked like before people destroyed it. Yes Dr. Parrott, lets destroy a natural gem and reconfigure it so we can pretend it's natural habitat and charge admission to see the fake features with caged animals. I can't believe this is even possible in the Bay area! Oakland City Council, you're an embarrassment to your people.
