Dan Tyminski Band

When: Fri., Jan. 4, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: $39.50

Multi-Grammy winner Dan Tyminski has been playing banjo, mandolin, and guitar in bluegrass bands since he was a kid. He became well known to aficionados during his tenure with the Lonesome River Band, but after joining Alison Krauss and Union Station he gained a national profile as a singer, songwriter, and picker. As a member of the fictional Soggy Bottom Boys in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?,Tyminski sang George Clooney's part on "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow," winning a Country Music Award and a Grammy in the process. With Union Station taking a break for most of 2008, Tyminski is recoding a new solo album and touring with his own first rate ensemble -- bassist Barry Bales, former Union Station and Mountain Heart member Adam Steffey on mandolin, Ron Stewart on banjo and fiddle, and multi-instrumental prodigy Justin Moses on fiddle and dobro. The Dan Tyminski Band plays a seated show Friday, Jan. 4 at the Independent (628 Divisadero St., San Francisco) at 8 pm. $25, $39.50.
