When: Feb. 11-20 2010

A cynosure attracts all eyes, and this show at UC Berkeley Art Department's gallery, subtitled "New Work from East Bay Galleries," may be just that, showcasing thirty-something thirtyish emerging local artists selected by their galleries in consultation with curator AnuVikram. The range of creativity in style, medium, and even aesthetic philosophy is wide, so anyone seeking to catch up on The School of Oakland would do well to saunter across Bancroft Way from the Berkeley Art Museum, Tuesday through Saturday, between noon and 5 p.m. Participating galleries include Alphonse Berber, Art@theOakbook, Blankspace, Chandra Cerrito, Hatch, Johansson Projects, Pueblo Nuevo, Rowan Morrison, Swarm, Terminal 32, and Krowswork Gallery & Project Space. The project room features an assaultive light-and-sound piece best left to the stout-hearted. Cynosure runs through February 20 at Worth Ryder Gallery (116 Kroeber Hall, UC Berkeley). 510-642-2582 or
