Re: “Letters for October 1

Raider fans- No way are Oakland or Alameda County tax dollars are going to be used to fund a new stadium. Al Davis is too cheap to pay for it himself so I don't know why you think they're going to stay here.
I find it amusing that 2 proponents of a new stadium don't live within 300 miles of here.

Re: “Letters for January 24-29, 2008

Correction. I think the original was written as The hill patrol vehicle has only been seen ON Piedmont ( Ave Berkeley) not in Piedmont

Re: “Research and Destroy

I can't tell from this story who the NBA basketball guy is- the taxi driver or the fare scafflaw! Why would somebody with a lot of money quibble over the fare? Especially if he's wanted. On the other hand if he's gone through his money through the hole in his nose, I guess he could be driving a cab.

Re: “Our Favorite Letters of 2007

Actually the letter about mountain bikes on the Strawberry Canyon firetrail (AKA Jordon Trail) was right on, although the writer may be slightly paranoid. There is an increased illegal presence bikes and of single tracks, one of which goes down through the redwood grove. This compacts soil over the shallow roots of these trees and will lead to their demise. Bike ruts do lead to increases erosion. There are some nice fresh rutted tracks from the day after the recent heavy rains. 95% of the cyclists when told they're not allowed on that trail have an attitude. The problem is partially the fault of UC who never replaced the metal no bicycle signs ( Internationl symbol of a bike with a slash mark) at each entrance to the trail which had been torn down by mountain bikers years ago. Instead the no bikes allowed is written in with a whole litany of not alloweds, which anyone speeding by on their bike isn't going to read.
The UC police department has a RAV 4 with "Hill Patrol" written on the side. I've seen it in Piedmont but never on the trail. There is little enforcement. Someone put some red police tape and snall limbs across the single track which within a week was torn down.

Re: “Letters for November 7, 2007

Dan the Spitter is at it again. Hopefully banned from the pages of the Berkeley Daily Planet where we were subjected to his pro Israel diatribes and half truths on a twice weekly basis.. He is spewing his poor Israel everyone's against us we're so opressed crap on the pages of this newspaper, now. He should be so lucky to have his letter printed. It seems his journalistic career entails writing letters to the editor on a fulll time basis, to subject us to APAC propaganda.
